Good regular dental and oral hygiene including brushing, flossing and regular check-ups are essential to address the effects of food consumption over the course of the day and prevent cavities and erosion. This is necessary whatever foods you have been eating, including food containing sugars or food acids.
How are you helping to make people aware of these issues?
We recognise the importance of education and information for promoting good dental health and hygiene, together with responsible consumption of our products.
We are working closely with scientists to improve our understanding of dental health and oral hygiene and sharing what we learn with health professionals such as dentists and hygienists. We are working hard to provide our consumers with reduced sugar and sugar free alternatives to our products.
We are investing time, money and people in public education programmes on dental health paying particular attention to serving disadvantaged communities.
Our Global Oral Care External Panel of scientific experts and practicing dentists provides advice and guidance on dental care research and development opportunities and our Oral Care Professional Programme is designed to bring our new product advances and research findings into dental offices/surgeries.
Are any of your products beneficial to dental care and oral hygiene?
We have developed an ingredient called Recaldent which we use in a wide range of gum and mint products to make them beneficial to teeth. Recaldent is a compound derived from milk and helps fight cavities by supporting the natural remineralisation of teeth, a process that makes teeth stronger. We are looking at opportunities to introduce Recaldent into a wider range of other products.
