Consumer Science Industrial Placement

Purpose

In Cadbury we work together to create brands people love.  The Consumer Science department works as a partner in research projects, and in development and improvement of new and existing products, using a wide range of sensory and consumer science methodologies. You will contribute to this by assisting panel leaders with running sensory panel sessions, assisting category teams and supporting the laboratory through good housekeeping.

Accountabilities

• The preparation of samples for sensory sessions in accordance to schedule laid out by panel leader.
• To assist in preparing training sessions for new panellists.
• To prepare materials for screening sessions and for training courses for colleagues and stakeholders.
• To operate departmental software in order to set up and run files for sensory profiling studies and discrimination tests.
• To assist the category teams in the day-to-day running and organisation of discrimination tests.
• Sample management - logging and disposal.
• To contribute to the maintenance of the quality system within the laboratory, ensuring that procedures are followed properly and highest standards of work and environment, health and safety are maintained.
• To ensure that the sensory preparation area and booth areas are clean and tidy at all times, and that the appropriate equipment is available in the booths.
• To assist and participate in the development of new methodologies and carry out internal projects for the team.
• Chance to develop an in-depth product knowledge and understanding of the confectionery categories.

Pre-requisites

In order to succeed in this role, it is expected that you will have:

• Educated to A’ level standard and studying for/has a science degree (or equivalent) in food science or a related discipline.
• Work well with others, be a fast learner with good organisational skills and a flexible attitude to work.
• Carry out practical work to a high standard, especially when under pressure from demanding timescales and the challenges of several simultaneous projects.
• A friendly, easygoing manner with the ability to organise oneself.
• General tidiness and good timekeeping
• An interest and enthusiasm for food.
