Clinical Sciences Industrial Placement

Purpose

The Clinical Sciences Department carries out a wide range of volunteer/patient-based studies for a variety of consumer and pharmaceutical companies.  The majority of studies are safety and or efficacy assessments of cosmetics, toiletries, foods, OTC medications.  All testing services are performed to Good Clinical Practice and all protocols are approved by an Independent Ethics Committee.

You will contribute to this by supporting the functioning of the Clinical Sciences Department.

Accountabilities

1. The preparation of test products, equipment and paperwork for clinical studies.
2. To assist with the running of clinical studies in the department.
3. To assist with the maintenance of study files.
4. To enter study-related data for tabulation in the study reports.
5. To ensure sufficient staff, volunteers and consumables are available for testing.
6. To keep the Clinical Testing Room clean and tidy, and carry out various support tasks.
7. To assist in liaison with clients, in the absence of senior members of the department.

Pre-requisites

In order to succeed in this role, it is expected that you will have/be:

• Educated to A level or equivalent (to include Biology and/or Chemistry)
• Possess at least 5 GCSEs or equivalent (grade C or above) including either
• Combined Science (2) or 2 individual science subjects, Mathematics and English Language.
• Must be well organised and have a good attention to detail.
• Responsible attitude to dealing with members of the public.
• Enquiring mind, self motivated and enthusiastic to learn.
• Able to work as part of a team.
• Customer oriented.
