"After just 12 months into my career at Cadbury I believe I've learned something new every day! I spent my first placement in the Candy Brands team. In this role I got to work with some classic brands such as Allsorts and Jelly Babies whilst I also got to take ownership of the entire The Natural Confectionery Company jelly sweets range. The ability to work on formulas and then see them through preliminary trials, factory trials and then full scale production makes seeing them in the shops even more rewarding! As well as the full product development projects I've been involved in regulatory compliance and supply chain led projects, allowing me to work with many people right across the business. The ability to continue with a couple of these projects whilst in my new role is great as I can see things through that I have started, without missing out on new experiences.
"I am now coming to the end of a placement within the Britain Ireland Middle East and Africa (BIMA) region Science & Technology packaging team where I have been working on constructional design. This was a complete world away from the Candy team as there are very different pressures on my time and work. This is because all of the projects worked on are very much in the scoping and idea generation area of the design funnel. It's been a fantastic experience and I've been lucky to work with some top design and advertising agencies, and extremely knowledgeable colleagues, to help develop truly novel packaging designs. I've also been able to visit suppliers and converters of board, flexibles (plastic) and foil to better understand the properties that help these materials protect our products.
"I will shortly be moving back to the edibles side of Science & Technology into the chocolate giving and sharing team where I will no doubt be learning even more!!"
