M.Eng Mechanical Engineering
Aston University

Regional Development Engineering Manager

'I joined Cadbury in 1989 on the graduate programme with an M.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from Aston University. I worked through the graduate scheme in Manufacturing at the Cadbury's Buttons plant and then on the installation and commissioning of the chocolate panning and packing line in Somerdale as a Project Engineer. Once I'd completed the graduate programme I worked as a Project Manager on various central projects across our UK sites, including Wispa and Creme Egg packing and Crunchie jet cutting.

'After a brief spell in Commercial I became a Manufacturing Manager in Bournville, looking after five plants in one of the moulding zones. Two years later, I transferred across to work as Technical Manager at Marlbrook - this role requires a combination of manufacturing experience and technical understanding to deal with the intensive demands of processing 365 days a year.

'I then returned to Bournville to head up the Capital Engineering group within Bournville. This extended to cover the UK finished goods sites, following the formation of Cadbury Trebor Bassett. The team were responsible for the development and delivery of capital projects.

'I'm currently responsible for Development Engineering across the Europe, Middle East & Africa region (EMEA). This is a regional role leading a team of scientists and engineers in the definition of proposals to support commercial and strategic business initiatives. We are currently working across all product categories - chewing gum, chocolate and sugar - and also travelling a lot!'
