Career Development

From its foundation, our company has consistently encouraged everyone to “make the most of their abilities”.  Today as a global company, we maintain this commitment to supporting all colleagues to realise their full potential.  We view the personal and professional development of colleagues as a shared responsibility between the company and the individual.  You bring the drive and motivation; your manager provides support and encouragement and the company supplies the necessary tools and programmes.  We believe that when colleagues have opportunities for development, they gain the capabilities, confidence and motivation to continually contribute to our present and future business success.

Our approach to career development starts with attracting talented people to our company.  Within the company, we provide them a fulfilling and stretching experience by giving them the support and resources they need to grow and to contribute to our business success.  Depending on their career stage, different colleagues have different needs and expectations.  We aim to help everyone develop in line with their ambitions and abilities and the demands of our business.

Early Career

Roughly speaking, early career colleagues at Cadbury are those within their first 5 years of employment after higher education.  Most people who join us at early career stages join through our local businesses around the world. Additionally, we recruit a few high potential candidates annually through global-level programmes.  Development opportunities at the early career stage include management skills trainings, opportunities for short-term placements in various business functions, mentorship, career development workshops and dialogues with line manager.  The aim at this stage is to equip the colleague with an understanding of the structure of the business and how various parts link to deliver business results, increase personal effectiveness at getting things done, as well as provide support in identifying career options.

Mid Career

Mid career stage directly follows the early career stage and covers roles such as country level managers.  Most mid career managers are grown from our internal early career talent.  In addition to our internal talent, we recruit some mid level managers from outside the company through our live current jobs pages.

Development opportunities at mid-career stage include team management trainings, strategic leadership trainings, international opportunities and ongoing career dialogues with line manager.  The aim at this stage is to equip the colleague with capabilities to lead teams, to develop and deliver business strategy and to gain exposure to other ways of working in other Cadbury businesses globally.

Senior Level

Senior or executive level roles are those at the highest level of the company.  It includes the company’s chief executive officer and high level leaders of Cadbury (approximately 150 globally).  We appoint senior leaders in a number of ways, including by growing suitable talent from within Cadbury or hiring from outside the company.  Development opportunities at this level include participation at the chief executive’s global leadership conference and through the executive development programme which brings together senior level leaders around business priorities.  Other development opportunities include mentorship opportunities, ongoing dialogue with line managers and, wherever appropriate, external expert coaching.  The aim at this level is to support leaders to use their personal leadership styles in setting and delivering business goals.
