Freddo is Australia’s number one chocolate frog!
Everyday Freddo uplifts and enhances people’s lives by adding fun and excitement to their special moments. This fun and exciting character, boasts a unique and engaging shape and the smooth creamy taste of Cadbury Dairy Milk milk chocolate that make him a huge winner with people of all generations.
In 1967 Cadbury acquired MacRobertsons, a respected Australian confectionery manufacturer founded in 1880. In 1929, Macpherson Robertson was considering the introduction of a penny chocolate mouse. An employee who was responsible for the development of several major MacRobertson lines suggested that a frog would be a more likeable character than the proposed mouse.
When Freddo was introduced in July 1930 he was sold as a solid chocolate frog for 1d and 2d for the cream filled version. Over the past 77 years Freddo Frog has been filled with over 40 flavours, including strawberry, vanilla, coffee, mint and caramel and has been combined with raisins, rice bubbles and nuts. In 2006, a 3D variant called Fun Filled Freddo was created, boasting 4 surprise centres in his belly.
Throughout his 77 years, Freddo has gone through a number of major changes to keep his image up to date with a major change in early 1970's when Freddo was given more character and a smile on his face.
In 1975 Freddo Frog became the subject of a children's book, "The Fantastic Adventures of Freddo" written by Gordon Rule and illustrated by Mary Melton.
As a character today, Freddo Frog has assumed a unique position in Australian folklore and remained a favourite with children and adults over four generations with fifty million Freddo Frogs sold annually.
